Effective: June 3rd, 2024

Two Colorado bills were signed into law on June 3rd, 2024, that change the state’s anti-discrimination laws.

The first bill introduced hair length into the CROWN Act. This act prevents discrimination on the basis of traits commonly or historically associated with race, such as hair texture, hair type, and protective hairstyles. This new change will add hair length to that list. The bill in its entirety can be found here.

The second bill created the CARE for Living Organ Donors Act, to recognize living organ donors. The major requirement for employers is that they are unable to discriminate on the basis of status as a living organ donor. The bill can be found here.

Employers should update their Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies in their handbook.
